My Dream Preschool!

I want my preschool to be the most inviting place for both parents and children. I want bright colors, and organization, although that's hard with children constantly in and out. I want it to be welcoming and for the parents and families, and i want them to be excited to show people where their child goes to school. I want walls to have the children's artwork on it, and i want them to be proud of their work, and know that i am proud of them. I want the atmosphere to be something a lot of people have never seen before. I want an indoor play room for when it rains so that the children can still get their energy out, while being inside. I want dramatic play, and table set ups so that the room is open enough for the children to not feel crushed with things, but also filled with so many things the children can do! For different lessons i want the children to be surprised when they walk into the room and everything is different. I want them to see all new things to grasp their attention to the new atmosphere, and what they will be learning. Catching a child's attention is important. I go on Pinterest daily and have a board dedicated to specifically what i want to incorporate into my preschool building.

.

I want children to have a space for a lot of dramatic play, i feel like when i was little there wasn't enough room for play, or acting. It was tiny, or not open throughout the whole day. Imagination is key to me, children should be able to use their imagination often, and dramatic play definitly helps, and i just love this curtain idea!

this is my dream for an indoor play area, living in Massachusetts the weather is outrageous, and you never know what will happen, Children's energy on rainy days and snow days when its too cold to go outside builds up and that's when they turn into little crazy animals, so having a place like this for them to run and play would be perfect!

This for a dramatic play area, is amazing to me. I feel as though the children would love this. I would probably use it for an outdoor lesson, or a summertime type theme. It's something different and would easily grab children's attention because it may be something they have never seen before. Dramatic play doesn't always need a kitchen and table, sometimes that's important to have, and other times i feel as though you should have many different things.

This art room is awesome. Messes can really ruin a day sometimes, and to be honest this room may clear all that up for you. The walls can be painted on and can be painted over at the end of the year or even make it white board walls and it will come right off when you wipe it at the end of the day. The children have full access to all paint which sometimes children cant do because they have to share, so this makes that process way easier. I love this room and the whole idea!

I will continue to look at pictures, and dream of what i want my preschool to incorporate or look like. If you ever have anything you want to see in a preschool get a Pinterest, theyre amazing.

Wanting to become a teacher, and why?

I have always wanted to become a teacher ever since i was a young child. Although i feel as though many little girls want to become teachers when playing with friends. I did because i wanted to be in charge, i was the smallest one throughout all of school even now usually, and i liked to make myself known so i always had to be the teacher of the group while playing pretend. I never thought that my childhood dream would ever become true one day, until my Aunt Mary passed away from breast cancer. She was my role model when it came to me wanting to be a teacher as i got older, and actually going for my goals. She was a teacher herself, a special needs teacher actually. She was the most amazing women, she treated each and every child as if they were her own. They loved everything about her, and her smile could make a lot of their days. She showed them consistency as well as love and care. She went above and beyond call outside the classroom she rode the bus with them to school and home from school, to make sure she was with them to help at all times. When she passed away, you could tell the impact she had on all the children she has ever taught, special needs and not. At her funeral there were many children there, some older some younger and some with their own children. Outside was the school bus she drove on everyday, the children and other teachers got together and put her name on a bus to always remember the impact she had on them, and always be with them at all times, even though she was gone. Her charm and personality was an added bonus to making me realize that having such a positive attitude can get you far in life. I wish she was still here and able to teach me more, and calm me down on certain days to make me remember why i do what i do, but what i can always do is think about her. Keeping with this career is allowing me to really be myself, I don't think the children learn from me half as much as i learn from them. I love what i do, and i will continue to love it. It doesn't even feel like a job, it feels like a hobby. One day i will open my own preschool, and i will do things all the time that will remind me of my aunt and i hope every time i do that i am making her proud and that i can be half the teacher she was, and still is since her love of teaching lives on in so many people! I can't wait to see where life takes me from here, and so glad that i made such an incredible decision on what i wanted to do! <3

my experience with technology in school

Starting in elementary school i was introduced to technology, i can't remember what grade, but i remember the software still to this day. It was the best part of my week usually, when we got to go use the computer lab with Mr. Plueler. Although everyone thought he was a little weird, he was always the well liked teacher in the school. The software was mostly games, but they had a lot of education behind them. I always played the one with the cooking games in it, and had to find the letters throughout the kitchen. Obviously that was the younger grades. So moving up in grades the computer technology became more typing based, and learning how to type and hold our hands and fingers, although that wasn't as much fun, it was still the best part of the week. I have always tried to find the software since, because i loved being able to play those games and get the education behind it, and also i really wanted it for my students when i open my own preschool.

Going from elementary school to middle school i thought that i would lose out on all that computer based time weekly, but i was wrong. At the beginning of middle school the first thing i started doing based on technology was go to the library with my class for research, that was 6th grade. In 7th grade though technology started to become more frequent, there was never computers in the classrooms just in the library section, but for my math class she usually had us down in the tech room, which we used for taking tests or practicing math online, or doing homework. Not my favorite thing considering i really don't like math, Although, i wasn't a huge fan of doing the math, it really helped me for college which i also used a computer based math program, oddly enough. Then in 8th grade i was taught how to use Peapod which was the virtual grocery store, My teacher has us get assigned a "job" and then with our virtual money we had pay for our house and loans and cars, and then use Peapod online and learn how to use online for things you can do in your everyday life, and i still remember how to use the website.

In high school computer time was way less frequent after freshman year. Freshman are usually forced to take a computer class which helps you with using all the Microsoft software, and how to keep track of your school work and how to type papers correctly and type the write way with your hands. That class was honestly a drag, but i did get some things out of it. As for after freshman year for me computer time was based on the teacher and the only other computers in the school were only in the library and them along with the computers in the computer class were slow and ancient to be honest. The teachers really tried to stay clear of the library at all times unless they gave us time for a research paper or other projects. Some other computer classes were available throughout high school but i did not take them.

In the first college i was at i didn't really use a computer in class except for my math class which was all on computers, as far as i was told we usually were not allowed to bring computers to class, but that was based on the professor. Obviously i was using my computer on my own to do papers and homework, but not a lot of computer time was offered throughout the classes. Now in Southern New Hampshire though there are certain teachers who want you to use your computer and some that really don't want technology in the classrooms at all.

All in all i have had a really great time with technology and being allowed to use it throughout my childhood and i am very grateful for the experiences i have had to help me now with learning more about technology and how to bring it into a preschool classroom if i open my own. I hope that everyone else has had the same or better experiences than me!

Moving into college

My name is Katelyn Oliver and I am a transfer student from North Shore Community College, which I recently just got my associates degree from. I am 23 years old, and thought it would be so weird to come to college and live here at an older age than a lot of people. It was also my first time ever leaving home and my comfort zone of family and friends, and I thought I would never be able to handle it. In my first week at school I have already learned a lot about myself, surprisingly. It has been extremely tough for me to make friends and cope with the fact that I don't have all my comfort stuff that I did at home, like being able to walk downstairs and have my whole family right there, or my friends not even 10 minutes away ever. Already I have learned that I can live on my own, and that moving on to bigger things in life just means for amazing things to start happening all together for me. I would love to open up my own preschool and I have been trying everything in my power to keep up with my goals and keep on track of what I have to do to do to keep on track of getting exactly what I want for myself. SNHU 235 is one class that is on my list of things that I needed for myself. I have tried to force myself to understand technology better, for future references and the job I want. I feel as though things for me will be extremely easier if I have more of a technology background added to what I already know! I have come extremely far from where I was freshman year of college at North Shore Community College, I have grown a lot not only about myself, but also about what I really want to do in my life!
